Journalist Derek Bishton retraces his own journey along the Camino de Santiago

Derek Bishton first walked the Camino de Santiago in 1999. Following Martin Sheen’s movie, The Way, Bishton decided to retrace his steps. He began his journey in Pamplona, the town that hosts the annual bull run documented by Ernest Hemingway’s ‘Death in the Afternoon’.

Bishton’s video blogs give a taste of the beauty and adventure of the route. Scenes of beautiful Rioja countryside and the breathtaking architecture of the monastery church of San Juan de Ortega are paired with clips of the journalist greeting friendly walkers.

 

The movie Bishton’s second pilgrimage is inspired by is a heart wrenching drama featuring a bereaved father walking with his son’s ashes along the trail to Santiago.
