You may be thinking about taking on the physical challenge of the Way of St James but you may be wondering how much training do you actually have to do?
Follow the Camino was the first ever tour operator to work along the Camino de Santiago or, in English, the Way of St James so they’ve learned a thing or two about preparing to walk to Compostela.
The tour operator explains on their website that there is no set training plan that works for everybody - the trail isn’t a set length for a start - but to prepare one must assess their own level of fitness.
You will need to do more training if you’re thinking of tackling the Pyrenees section than the flatter Meseta but either way the best time to begin training is around three months before your trek.
The Follow the Camino website has a PDF calendar you can download alongside a whole host of invaluable tips.
