One man's meticulous Camino gear list

Wondering what on earth you would pack to hike the Camino de Santiago?

This intrepid traveller has the answer.

In 2011 Dave Dean decided to quit his job, sell all of his possessions and live freely on the road. He’s been to countless destinations and had more adventures than most people have had hot dinners but as many past pilgrims, the Camino de Santiago was a special adventure for him.

Dave completed one of the most satisfying experiences of his life in the Camino as in just over a month he walked from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela and then to Finisterre on Spain’s coast.

After doing a week’s training walk, Dave made one of the most detailed packing lists available online, so detailed that he’s broken it up into sections such as ‘first aid kit’ ‘technology’ and ‘what I wish I’d taken but didn’t.’
