Destiny of a Child organises regular fundraising events appealing to different
interests
and with the emphasis on fun.
United Kingdom - An evening of Desperate Housewives
and fashionable knitting - Thursday 2nd March 2006
| Without a doubt, this was the girls'
social highlight of the month!
The evening was a great success. It was amazing to see the concentration
and enthusiasm that everyone put into knitting squares for the benefit
of an orphenage. However, the knitting took second place when Gabrielle
met her gardener!
Funds raised were allocated to Cochlee Ile de France.

United Kingdom - An Evening of Sound - Saturday 30th
April 2005
| We were delighted with the success
of the evening and judging by the many kind messages we received
from those able to attend, we believe that the event was a really
entertaining and enjoyable night out for all.
Some of the highlights were:
* The presence of Harold Davies, renowned international show host.
His skills as an Italian t.v. presenter and his charisma were highly
appreciated by all our guests.www.harolddavies.com
* The Beatles tribute band, V.A.G.H.I. (from Sardinia!) playing
'Help' and 'A Hard Day's Night' with William Ogden who received
a cochlear implant as a young boy and is now studying for his music
A-level
* Leonard Johnson with his remarkable voice singing numbers such
as 'My Way' and great hits like 'Celebration' from his days with
Kool and the Gang
* A hilarious and surprisingly co-ordinated (but distinctly hairy)
extract from Swan Lake performed by some local dads, and
* Lots of impromptu dancing between the tables.
With the help of very generous donors, the auction and the raffle
prizes were snapped up very quickly with guests being able to travel
the world with destinations like South Africa, Barcelona, Paris
and much more on offer.
Monies raised from this event were donated to the Ear
Foundation to benefit an educational programme for their nursery.
Since its formation, the Ear Foundation has achieved a great deal
in the establishment of a clinical programme, the education and
training of professionals and research into the effect of cochlear
implantation.

France - Just One Marathon - Sunday 7th March 2004
Paris Half Marathon
| Destiny of a Child took a group of 45
runners from the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, Spain, Belgium
and America to participate in the Paris Half Marathon. It was a cold
and miserable day and the runners were pelted with hailstones but
there was a very warm atmosphere with lots of laughter.
The weekend included shopping in some of the finest streets of
Paris and dinner in a typical French brasserie.
It was said that the Destiny of a Child runners stood out amongst
the other runners as they had very bright yellow t-shirts and caps
on (and huge big smiles!)

United Kingdom - Just One Last Match - 21st September 2003
Rugby players over 35 and cheerleaders:
|
"Just One Last Match" According to everyone it was a great day,
blessed with the best weather we could have wished for at the end
of the summer. The players managed to escape without serious injuries
and the cheerleaders were called back for an encore.
The children went up and down the giant slide and some parents
were also spotted in the laser tent. We managed to serve 800 people
with South African sausages without too many problems.
The raffle prizes made 7 couples very happy with the excitement
of wonderful weekends away and the children left with teddies, scooters
and some of the cheerleader's beloved pom poms. Annie Martin had
expressed her sincere gratitude to the enthusiastic cheerleaders
for their fantastic show and the Acorns rugby team from Sevenoaks.
Monies raised from this event were donated to The
Ear Foundation, Nottingham going towards cochlear implanted
children attending their nursery. Also to C.I.C.S.
for organising a seminar helping parents to cope before and after
the operation.

of Lourdes.
