An Evening of Sound

Riding on the success of the first Evening of Sound, in 2007 the charity set out, with the help of a devoted committee and Harold Davies to host another entertaining evening of international music and the celebration of sound. The thank you messages received in the following days helped hail the success of the event.

Highlights included:

  • The salsa rhythms of the Cuban band Son de Havana and some remarkable moves from 3 very different salsa dance couples.
  • Leonard Johnson wowing the audience with great hits including ‘Celebration’ from his days with Kool and the Gang.
  • A hilarious and surprisingly co-ordinated (but distinctly crossed dressed) group of local ‘salsa’ dancers, again performed by local dads.

The auction prizes helped to raise a large of money for the Ear Foundation and Cochlear Ile-de-France and allowed happy winners to attend a Real Madrid FC football game in Madrid. Others attended La Scala Opera in Milan and two enjoyed the Men’s Final at Roland Garros whilst a couple shared a day with the Redbull Formula 1 team track side at Silverstone.

Finally we were delighted to be able to auction a bonze cast of Jonah Lomu’s hands from The Hands That Shaped Humanity Exhibition - donated by the Desmond Tutu Peace Trust.

The Ear Foundation introduced cochlear implantation technology to the UK, which has proven to be the biggest medical innovation for deaf children. Since its formation, the Ear Foundation has achieved a great deal in the establishment of a clinical programme, the education and training of professionals, research into the effects of cochlear implantation and post operational care for the children and their families.
